🍽️ Crispy bratwursts with creamy onion sauce and fluffy mashed potatoes

Ingredients
- 800 g starchy potatoes
- salt
- 100 ml milk
- 100 ml whipping cream
- 40 g soft butter
- nutmeg
- 2 onions
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 200 ml ale (or dark beer)
- 200 ml meat broth
- salt
- cumin (ground)
- pepper (from the mill)
- 8 fried sausages
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- 1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly under running water.
- 2. Peel the potatoes completely.
- 3. Place the peeled potatoes in a pot with salted water.
- 4. Boil the potatoes for about 30 minutes until they are tender.
- 5. Peel the onions.
- 6. Halve the onions in the middle.
- 7. Slice the onion halves into thin strips.
- 8. Heat butter in a pan.
- 9. Fry the onion strips in the hot butter, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes until golden brown.
- 10. Add the flour to the onions.
- 11. Sweat the flour briefly by mixing it with the onions while stirring.
- 12. Deglaze the pan with the beer.
- 13. Pour in the broth.
- 14. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens.
- 15. Season the sauce with salt, cumin, and pepper.
- 16. Heat oil in a separate pan.
- 17. Fry the sausages in the hot oil for about 5 minutes until golden brown on all sides.
- 18. Drain the cooking water from the potatoes.
- 19. Press the hot potatoes through a potato ricer.
- 20. Heat milk, cream, and butter together in a small pot.
- 21. Gradually stir the warm milk mixture into the potatoes.
- 22. Season the mashed potatoes with salt.
- 23. Place the bratwursts on the plate next to the mashed potatoes.
- 24. Pour the onion sauce over the sausages and the mash.
- 25. Serve the dish immediately.
