Ingredients
- 1 mild pepper (or chili pepper)
- 1 shallot
- 2 tbsp caper berries
- dill tips (for garnishing)
- 2 onions
- clarified butter (for frying)
Instructions
- 1. Cut off the fins of the herring. Drizzle the fish inside and out with lemon juice and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Season the herring with salt and pepper and coat them in flour.
- 2. Heat the ghee in a pan and fry the herring in it for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove them from the pan and let them cool in a large dish placed side by side.
- 3. Bring about 400 milliliters of water to a boil with vinegar, salt, and mustard seeds. Peel the onions, slice them into thin rings, and add them. Let everything simmer for 2 to 3 minutes and then let the mixture cool down.
- 4. Pour the marinade over the herring so that they are completely covered. Cover the dish and let the herring marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- 5. Wash the pepperoni, remove the seeds, and slice them diagonally into rings. Peel the shallot and slice it into rings as well. Remove the herring from the marinade, sprinkle them with the shallot rings and the pepperoni. Serve them garnished with capers and dill.
