🍽️ Juicy Beef Sandwiches with Sweet-Sour Onions

Ingredients
- 5 red onions
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 50 ml red wine
- 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- 2 tomatoes
- 4 leaves leaf lettuce (e.g. Lollo Rosso)
- 4 slices beef steak approx. 120 g (e.g. ribeye)
- 8 slices white bread
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings.
- 2. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat.
- 3. Add the onion rings to the pan and sauté them slowly for 4 to 5 minutes until they are soft and translucent.
- 4. Sprinkle the mustard seeds over the onions.
- 5. Deglaze the pan by pouring in the red wine and stirring briefly.
- 6. Add the balsamic vinegar.
- 7. Let the mixture simmer gently for about 10 minutes over low heat.
- 8. If the pan becomes too dry, add a little water.
- 9. Season the onions with salt and pepper to finish.
- 10. Wash the tomatoes and remove the hard stem area.
- 11. Slice the tomatoes into even slices.
- 12. Wash the leaf salad and shake it dry thoroughly.
- 13. Tear the salad into bite-sized pieces if it is too large.
- 14. Pat the beef steaks dry with a kitchen towel.
- 15. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
- 16. Fry the steaks in the remaining hot oil for 1 to 2 minutes per side.
- 17. Adjust the cooking time according to your personal preference (shorter for rare, longer for well-done).
- 18. Take four slices of bread and top them with the leaf salad.
- 19. Place the tomato slices on top of the salad.
- 20. Place the fried beef steaks on top of the tomatoes.
- 21. Distribute the caramelized onions evenly over the steaks.
- 22. Cover the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices.
