Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1. Mix flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt, and sugar in a bowl. Pour the mixture onto a clean work surface and shape it into a small mound.
  2. 2. Press a well into the center of the flour mound. Add the quark (a type of fresh cheese) into this indentation.
  3. 3. Pour the oil into the center.
  4. 4. Knead everything together with your hands until you have a smooth, pliable dough.
  5. 5. Roll out the dough thinly.
  6. 6. Place the dough in your cake pan and press it firmly. Preheat the oven.
  7. 7. Peel the apples. Cut them into quarters and immediately drizzle them with lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
  8. 8. Cut out the hard core from the apple quarters.
  9. 9. Place the apple pieces flat on a cutting board. Make several lengthwise cuts into them, but do not cut all the way through.
  10. 10. Gently press the apples so they open up like a flower. Place them on the dough with the curved side facing up.
  11. 11. Add eggs, sugar, and cream to a separate bowl.
  12. 12. Whisk the ingredients well together with a spoon or whisk until you have a uniform mixture.
  13. 13. Pour the egg-cream mixture evenly over the apples.
  14. 14. Swirl the pan slightly to ensure the liquid is evenly distributed. Bake the cake on the middle rack for about 30 minutes.
  15. 15. Remove the cake from the oven. Let it cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar to taste before serving.
  16. 16. Enjoy your cake!
