  1. 1. Peel the apples and pears.
  2. 2. Cut the fruits into quarters.
  3. 3. Remove the core.
  4. 4. Cut the flesh into coarse cubes.
  5. 5. Place the fruit cubes in a pot.
  6. 6. Pour in 300 milliliters of water.
  7. 7. Add lemon juice.
  8. 8. Add half of the lemon zest.
  9. 9. Add sugar to taste.
  10. 10. Add roughly broken cinnamon sticks.
  11. 11. Add sultanas.
  12. 12. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  13. 13. Cover the pot.
  14. 14. Simmer the compote over medium heat.
  15. 15. Simmer for a few minutes.
  16. 16. Simmer until the fruit is soft but still holds its shape.
  17. 17. Remove the pot from the heat.
  18. 18. Let the mixture cool.
  19. 19. Serve the compote in dessert glasses or bowls.
