  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized cubes.
  2. 2. Peel and finely dice the onion. Clean the mushrooms and slice them.
  3. 3. Heat the butter in a pan. Fry the chicken on all sides until golden brown and remove from the pan.
  4. 4. Fry the onions and mushrooms in the same pan until the vegetables are soft.
  5. 5. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute. The flour cooks out and gives the sauce body.
  6. 6. Deglaze with the chicken broth and blackcurrant liqueur. Stir vigorously until no lumps remain.
  7. 7. Return the chicken and thyme to the pan. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 2 minutes.
  8. 8. Empty the mixture into a baking dish. Generously sprinkle with the grated Gruyère cheese.
  9. 9. Bake the gratin in the oven for 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and crisp brown.
