🍽️ Greek Gyros Meat in Metaxa Cream

Ingredients
- 500 g chicken breast fillet(s) (or turkey fillet)
- 2 bell pepper(s), red
- 250 g mushrooms
- 200 ml cream
- 200 g sour cream
- 3 tbsp Metaxa
- salt and pepper
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- a little sugar
- 200 g cheese, grated
- 1 onion(s)
- paprika powder
- garlic granules
- spice mix (Greek)
- olive oil
Instructions
- 1. Cut the meat into thin strips.
- 2. Marinate the meat strips with a little oil and Greek spices.
- 3. You can also prepare the marinade the day before.
- 4. Finely chop the onion.
- 5. Fry the onion in a little oil.
- 6. Wash the bell peppers.
- 7. Cut the bell peppers into cubes.
- 8. Clean the mushrooms.
- 9. Cut the mushrooms into cubes as well.
- 10. Add the cut vegetables to the onion in the pan.
- 11. Let the vegetables simmer on low heat.
- 12. Wait until the liquid has evaporated.
- 13. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper in between.
- 14. Fry the meat in another pan over high heat.
- 15. Do not use extra fat when frying the meat.
- 16. Add the prepared vegetable mixture to the meat.
- 17. Add sour cream to the pan.
- 18. Add cream to the pan.
- 19. Add tomato paste to the pan.
- 20. Add Metaxa (a Greek brandy) to the pan.
- 21. Let the mixture simmer for one minute.
- 22. Season the sauce with spices to taste.
- 23. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 24. Place the meat mixture in a baking dish.
- 25. Sprinkle the mixture with cheese.
- 26. Bake the baking dish for about 20 minutes in the oven.
- 27. Remove the dish when the cheese is golden brown.
- 28. Serve the dish with rice and tzatziki.
