🍽️ Crispy Yeast Plait in Grandma's Style

Ingredients
- 750 g flour
- 125 g sugar
- 1 cube yeast
- 375 ml milk (lukewarm)
- 100 g butter
- 1 pinch(es) salt
- 2 egg(s)
- milk (lukewarm, for brushing)
Instructions
- 1. Put the flour into a large bowl.
- 2. Sift the flour directly into the bowl.
- 3. Dissolve the yeast in 3 to 4 tablespoons of lukewarm milk.
- 4. Stir 1 teaspoon of sugar into the milk-yeast mixture.
- 5. Press a small well into the flour.
- 6. Pour the yeast mixture into the well.
- 7. Gently stir the yeast with a teaspoon and a little flour.
- 8. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel.
- 9. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes.
- 10. Dust the risen yeast dough with a little flour.
- 11. Add the rest of the ingredients to the dough.
- 12. Knead the dough with an electric mixer on the highest setting.
- 13. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
- 14. Stop kneading when the dough is smooth.
- 15. Cover the dough with a kitchen towel again.
- 16. Let the dough rise until it has doubled in size.
- 17. Allow about 45 minutes for rising.
- 18. Turn the dough out onto a work surface.
- 19. Knead the dough briefly.
- 20. Divide the dough into three equal strands.
- 21. Braid the three strands into a plait.
- 22. Brush the plait with lukewarm milk.
- 23. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 24. Bake the plait in the oven for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- 25. Alternatively, use 2 packets of dry yeast instead of 1 cube of fresh yeast.
- 26. Do not mix the dry yeast separately with flour.
