Ingredients
- 500 g asparagus (fresh)
- a little butter
- salt
- sugar
- 250 g Gouda (or Edam, sliced)
- 250 g boiled ham (in as large slices as possible)
- 100 g flour
- 2 egg(s) (beaten)
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- oil for frying
Instructions
- 1. Peel the fresh asparagus. Cook it in salted water with a small piece of butter and a little sugar, but make sure it still has a bit of bite.
- 2. Wrap 2 to 3 stalks of asparagus, depending on thickness, in a slice of Gouda or Edamer. Then wrap a slice of ham around it and secure the bundle with toothpicks.
- 3. Coat the asparagus-cheese-ham pieces in flour and shake off the excess. Then dip them in the beaten egg and finally roll them in the breadcrumbs.
- 4. Fry them in a frying pan with heated oil until they are golden brown and crispy. You can eat this breaded asparagus hot or cold – it tastes delicious both ways and is very filling, you don't need any side dishes anymore and the asparagus tastes completely different.
