- 0.25 Liter milk (hot, approx.)

Instructions
- 1. Thoroughly wash the potatoes under running water.
- 2. Peel the potatoes completely.
- 3. Cut the peeled potatoes into small, uniform cubes.
- 4. Rinse the potato cubes briefly with cold water to remove excess starch.
- 5. Place the potato cubes into a pot.
- 6. Cover the potatoes with boiling water.
- 7. Season the cooking water generously with salt.
- 8. Cook the potatoes over medium heat for about 20 minutes.
- 9. Check for doneness: The potatoes are ready when they can be easily pierced with a fork.
- 10. Drain the cooking water using a sieve.
- 11. Let the potatoes drain briefly in the sieve.
- 12. Pour the milk into a small saucepan.
- 13. Bring the milk to a boil in the small saucepan.
- 14. Press the drained potatoes through a potato masher directly into a large mixing bowl.
- 15. Remove the hot milk from the heat.
- 16. Add a piece of butter to the potatoes.
- 17. Pour the hot milk immediately over the potatoes and butter.
- 18. Stir the ingredients vigorously until a creamy mixture forms.
- 19. If necessary, add a little more hot milk to achieve the desired consistency.
- 20. Finally, season the mashed potatoes with salt to taste.
- 21. Optionally add a pinch of nutmeg if desired.
- 22. Serve the mashed potatoes immediately while warm.
