  1. 1. Thoroughly wash the asparagus under running water.
  2. 2. Trim off the woody, fibrous ends of the stalks generously.
  3. 3. Cut thick asparagus stalks in half lengthwise so they cook evenly.
  4. 4. Place the asparagus in a bowl or directly into the air fryer basket.
  5. 5. Lightly moisten the stalks with a little olive oil.
  6. 6. Season the asparagus with pepper and mix everything well.
  7. 7. Use only a little oil so the asparagus roasts instead of steaming.
  8. 8. Do not overfill the basket so that the hot air can circulate well.
  9. 9. Preheat the air fryer to 190 °C.
  10. 10. Cook the asparagus for 10 minutes at 190 °C.
  11. 11. Shake the basket well halfway through the time or turn the asparagus.
  12. 12. Check after 8 minutes if thinner stalks are already soft.
  13. 13. Season the asparagus with salt as soon as it is soft and roasted.
  14. 14. Sprinkle finely grated Parmesan evenly over the asparagus.
  15. 15. Return the asparagus to the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes at 190 °C.
  16. 16. Remove the asparagus when the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  17. 17. Garnish the finished asparagus with some lemon zest.
