  4. 4. Place the toast slices in the air fryer basket with the buttered side facing down.
  5. 5. Place the cheese slices in the center of the bread.
  6. 6. Distribute the gherkin slices evenly over the cheese.
  7. 7. Make sure to leave a small border around the filling so that nothing leaks out while melting.
  8. 8. Top with the second toast slice, ensuring the buttered side faces up.
  9. 9. Do not preheat the air fryer so the cheese has time to melt before the bread browns too quickly.
  10. 10. Set the air fryer to 170 °C and cook the sandwich for 15 minutes.
  11. 11. Carefully flip the sandwich after about 7 to 8 minutes so both sides become evenly crispy.
