  1. 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. 2. Stir the sugar into the melted butter until well combined.
  3. 3. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool down slightly.
  4. 4. Place the egg yolks and flour in a large mixing bowl.
  5. 5. Mix the egg yolks and flour briefly with a hand mixer.
  6. 6. Pour in the cooled butter-sugar mixture (and vanilla extract if desired).
  7. 7. Mix with the hand mixer only until a crumbly dough forms.
  8. 8. Take three quarters of the crumb mixture aside.
  9. 9. Press the remaining crumbs into a greased springform pan.
  10. 10. Press the crumbs firmly to create an even base.
  11. 11. Halve the plums.
  12. 12. Place the plums closely side by side on the dough base.
  13. 13. Make sure the plum pieces do not touch each other.
  14. 14. Sprinkle the remaining crumbs over the cake.
  15. 15. Sprinkle some sugar over the plums if they taste very sour.
  16. 16. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  17. 17. Bake the cake for 45 to 50 minutes.
  18. 18. Cover the cake with aluminum foil if the crumbs become too dark.
