  1. 1. Separate the eggs. You need the yolks and whites separately.
  2. 2. Beat the egg yolks with the sugar and vanilla sugar until creamy.
  3. 3. Stir the lukewarm water into the egg yolk mixture.
  4. 4. Add the oil and stir it in.
  5. 5. Mix the flour with the baking powder in a second bowl.
  6. 6. Gently fold the dry mixture into the egg yolk mixture.
  7. 7. Beat the egg whites until stiff.
  8. 8. Fold the egg whites in very carefully so the air does not escape.
  9. 9. Divide the batter into two equal parts.
  10. 10. Stir the cocoa powder into one of the two halves.
  11. 11. Check if the batter is liquid enough.
  12. 12. If the batter is too thick, stir in two tablespoons of water.
  13. 13. Grease a springform pan with a diameter of 26 centimeters.
  14. 14. Spoon three tablespoons of the light batter into the center of the pan.
  15. 15. Spoon three tablespoons of the chocolate batter into the center of the pan.
  16. 16. Repeat the alternating spooning until both batters are used up.
  17. 17. Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 160 degrees Celsius fan-forced.
  18. 18. Bake the cake for about 50 to 60 minutes.
  19. 19. Let the cake cool in the pan.
  20. 20. Dust the cake with powdered sugar if desired.
  21. 21. Insert a wooden skewer into the center to test the baking time.
  22. 22. If the skewer comes out clean, the cake is done.
