Ingredients
- 200 ml milk
- 75 g butter
- 500 g flour
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 75 g sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch salt
- 50 g butter (melted, for basting)
- to taste apricot jam (or plum butter)
Instructions
- 1. Warm the milk and butter in a pot on the stove. Stir until the butter is completely melted. Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool down briefly.
- 2. Add flour, salt, yeast, sugar, and vanilla sugar to a large bowl. Mix the dry ingredients well together.
- 3. Pour the warm milk-butter mixture and one egg into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
- 4. Process the dough using the dough hooks of a hand mixer. Knead it until it is smooth and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- 5. Cover the bowl. Place it in a warm spot and let the dough rise for about 1 hour.
- 6. Sprinkle some flour on a clean work surface. Take out the dough and knead it briefly.
- 7. Shape the dough into a long roll. Cut the roll into about 15 equal pieces.
- 8. Take a piece of dough and press a small indentation into the center. Add one teaspoon of jam into the indentation.
- 9. Close the dough around the jam. Roll the piece between your hands into a round ball.
- 10. Repeat this with all the dough pieces.
- 11. Grease a springform pan or a baking dish with some fat.
- 12. Place the dough balls side by side in the prepared pan.
- 13. Let the dumplings rise for another 20 minutes.
- 14. Melt some butter in a small pot.
- 15. Check if your springform pan seals well. If it is not tight, wrap it in aluminum foil or use a baking dish instead, so that the butter does not leak out.
- 16. Pour the melted butter over the dumplings.
- 17. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 18. Place the pan in the oven. Bake the dumplings for about 25 minutes.
