Ingredients
- 2 Orange(s) (unsprayed)
- 2 Lemon(s) (unsprayed)
- 1 Stalk cinnamon
- 2 Star anise
- 5 Clove(s)
- 2 Liter Red wine, dry
- 1 Bottle Rum (at least 54% alcohol)
- 1 Sugarloaf
Instructions
- 1. Thoroughly wash the oranges and lemons under hot water.
- 2. Slice the fruits into thin rounds.
- 3. Place the fruit slices, spices, and wine in a pot.
- 4. Heat the mixture until it is just about to boil.
- 5. Place the pot on a small burner (rechaud) to keep the punch warm.
- 6. Use tongs or a rack to place the sugar loaf over the pot rim.
- 7. Soak the sugar loaf generously with rum.
- 8. Light the rum on the sugar loaf on fire.
- 9. Let the rum burn until all the sugar has melted and dripped into the wine.
- 10. Enjoy the punch best while it is still hot.
- 11. Caution: Make sure you prepare the punch in a well-ventilated room to avoid fire hazards!
