Ingredients
- 200 g natural tofu (firm)
- 1 tbsp heaping cornstarch
- a little sea salt
- a little pepper (freshly ground)
- a little oil for frying (frying oil, sesame oil, etc.)
- optional spice(s) (to taste)
Instructions
- 1. Put cornstarch, a pinch of salt, and pepper into a large freezer bag (approx. 3 liters).
- 2. Cut the tofu (do not pat it dry first) into small cubes of about 0.5 cm.
- 3. Add the tofu cubes to the bag as well.
- 4. Seal the bag well and shake it vigorously.
- 5. Shake until all tofu cubes are evenly coated with the starch.
- 6. If necessary, add about half a tablespoon of starch, as the amount depends on the type of tofu.
- 7. Tip: You can use a lidded jar instead of a bag.
- 8. Heat some oil in a non-stick pan.
- 9. Fry the tofu cubes over high heat on all sides until golden brown.
- 10. Then place them on kitchen paper to absorb excess oil.
- 11. Use as desired.
- 12. Note: If a recipe calls for fried tofu, I always prepare it this way.
- 13. Add the tofu only at the very end of the dish so it stays warm but does not become soggy.
- 14. Optional: You can also mix spices like paprika, curry, turmeric, coriander, or chili directly into the tofu.
