  2. 2. Cook the vegetables with the skin on.
  3. 3. It is best to cook the vegetables the day before.
  4. 4. Peel the vegetables the next day.
  5. 5. Choose a flat, oval plate.
  6. 6. Grate the cooked potatoes on a coarse grater.
  7. 7. Spread the potatoes as the first layer on the plate.
  8. 8. Cut the herring into fine small cubes.
  9. 9. Place the herring cubes as the second layer on top.
  10. 10. Dice the onion finely.
  11. 11. Spread the onion as the third layer.
  12. 12. Drizzle four to five tablespoons of mayonnaise over it.
  13. 13. Grate the cooked carrots coarsely.
  14. 14. Place the carrots as the fifth layer on the salad.
  15. 15. Grate the cooked eggs coarsely or dice them finely.
  16. 16. Spread the eggs as the sixth layer.
