🍽️ Classic French Onion Soup

Ingredients
- 500 g onion(s)
- 2 clove(s) garlic
- 40 g butter
- salt and pepper (black)
- 20 g flour
- 1 Liter meat broth
- 0.25 Liter white wine
- 100 g hard cheese (grated)
- 4 slice(s) white bread (or toast bread)
Instructions
- 1. Slice the onions into thin rings.
- 2. Finely dice the garlic.
- 3. Heat the butter in a pot.
- 4. Sauté the onions and garlic until light yellow.
- 5. Sprinkle the flour over the onion mixture.
- 6. Let the mixture simmer gently for five minutes while stirring.
- 7. Pour in the broth and white wine.
- 8. Stir everything well.
- 9. Let the soup simmer on low heat for twenty minutes.
- 10. Finally, season the soup with salt and pepper.
- 11. Toast the slices of white bread (crusts removed) until crisp.
- 12. Place the toast slices in an oven-safe dish.
- 13. Pour the hot soup over the toast slices.
- 14. Spread the grated cheese evenly over the top.
- 15. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees (Gas Mark 6).
- 16. Immediately place the dish in the preheated oven on the top rack.
- 17. Bake the soup until the cheese is golden brown and bubbling.
- 18. Remove the soup from the oven.
- 19. Serve the soup immediately while it is still hot.
