🍽️ Hearty Casserole with Minced Meat, Sauerkraut, and Potato Dumplings

Ingredients
- 1 pkg. HENGLEIN Fine Schupfnudeln (500 g)
- 2 bell pepper(s), red
- 2 onion(s)
- 1 can Sauerkraut (850 ml)
- 400 g minced meat, mixed
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 container Schmand
- 100 ml milk
- salt and pepper (freshly ground)
- 150 g cheese, grated (e.g. Alpine cheese)
Instructions
- 1. Turn on the oven and set it to 180 degrees Celsius.
- 2. Wash the bell peppers thoroughly.
- 3. Cut the peppers in half lengthwise.
- 4. Remove the seeds from the pepper halves.
- 5. Cut the deseeded vegetable into small, bite-sized pieces.
- 6. Peel the onions completely.
- 7. Slice the peeled onions into thin rings.
- 8. Place the sauerkraut into a colander.
- 9. Let the sauerkraut drain in the colander.
- 10. Squeeze the drained sauerkraut firmly to remove excess liquid.
- 11. Heat some oil in a large pan.
- 12. Fry the minced meat in the hot pan, browning it well on all sides.
- 13. Add the prepared pepper pieces to the pan.
- 14. Add the onion rings to the pan.
- 15. Sauté the vegetables briefly with the meat.
- 16. Add the potato dumplings (Schupfnudeln) to the pan.
- 17. Take a baking dish.
- 18. Transfer the mixture of meat, vegetables, and dumplings into the baking dish.
- 19. Add the squeezed sauerkraut to the baking dish as well.
- 20. Take a separate bowl.
- 21. Put the sour cream (Schmand) into the bowl.
- 22. Add a little milk to the sour cream.
- 23. Whisk the sour cream and milk together well.
- 24. Season the cream mixture with salt to taste.
- 25. Season the cream mixture with pepper to taste.
- 26. Pour the finished sauce evenly over the ingredients in the baking dish.
- 27. Sprinkle grated cheese over the casserole.
- 28. Place the baking dish into the preheated oven.
- 29. Bake the casserole for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- 30. Note: If using convection (fan) settings, set the oven to 160 degrees.
- 31. Note: If using a gas oven, set it to level 3.
