🍽️ Homemade Nut Squares with Nut-Sugar Filling

Ingredients
- 300 g flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 130 g sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 2 egg(s)
- 130 g butter, soft
- Fat and flour for the baking sheet
- 6 tbsp apricot jam
- 200 g butter
- 5 tbsp water (or rum)
- 200 g sugar, brown
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 400 g hazelnuts, ground (or walnuts or almonds)
- 200 g chocolate glaze
Instructions
- 1. Knead all dough ingredients into a soft and pliable dough.
- 2. Grease the bottom of a baking dish with fat and lightly dust it with flour.
- 3. Press the dough firmly and evenly into the prepared dish.
- 4. Spread a thin layer of jam evenly over the dough.
- 5. Melt butter, water, sugar, and vanilla sugar in a pot without letting the mixture boil.
- 6. Stir ground nuts or almonds into the warm sugar mixture and mix everything well.
- 7. Distribute the nut-sugar mixture evenly over the jam layer.
- 8. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 9. Bake the nut squares for about 30 to 35 minutes on the middle rack.
- 10. Let the nut squares cool completely on the sheet, preferably overnight.
- 11. Cut the cooled nut squares into the typical corner shape.
- 12. Dip the tips or side edges of the nut squares into the chocolate glaze.
