🍽️ Perfect Swedish Cinnamon Buns (Kanelbullar)

Ingredients
- 150 g Butter or Margarine
- 500 ml Milk
- 50 g Fresh Yeast
- 150 g Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 1 kg Wheat Flour
- Flour for the work surface
- 75 g Butter or Margarine (soft)
- 100 g Sugar
- 1 tbsp Cinnamon Powder
- 1 Egg (beaten, for brushing)
- Sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- 1. Melt the butter or margarine in a pot.
- 2. Add the milk and warm the mixture to about 37 degrees.
- 3. Stir the yeast into the lukewarm milk until it has completely dissolved.
- 4. Add sugar, salt, cardamom, and almost all the flour to the bowl.
- 5. Knead the dough until it is soft and pliable.
- 6. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour.
- 7. Cover the dough with a cloth.
- 8. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 to 40 minutes.
- 9. Knead the dough again on a lightly floured surface.
- 10. Divide the dough into three equal parts.
- 11. Roll each part into a thin rectangle.
- 12. Spread the dough surfaces with soft margarine or butter.
- 13. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- 14. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over the dough.
- 15. Roll the dough into a long log.
- 16. Cut the log into pieces about 4 cm thick.
- 17. Place the pieces cut-side down on a baking sheet.
- 18. Let the dough rise again until it has doubled in size in about 30 minutes.
- 19. Preheat the oven to 250 to 275 degrees top and bottom heat.
- 20. Brush the cinnamon buns with beaten egg.
- 21. Then sprinkle the buns with sugar.
- 22. Bake the buns on the middle rack in the preheated oven for about 5 to 8 minutes.
- 23. Let the finished buns cool under a cloth.
