  1. 1. Important: These quantities are for a special fruit cake tray, which is smaller than a standard baking sheet. For a very large tray, double the ingredients. Alternatively, this recipe also fits a 28-centimeter springform pan.
  2. 2. Mix flour, fat, sugar, egg, and vanilla sugar into a dough. Spread the dough evenly on the baking sheet.
  3. 3. Peel the apples, cut them into pieces, and mix them with the apple puree in a bowl. Place this apple mixture on the dough.
  4. 4. Melt the fat for the crumbles in a pot and remove it from the heat. Mix in the remaining ingredients. Let the mixture cool briefly. Then take small portions of dough in your hands and crumble them over the cake to form the streusel topping.
  5. 5. Bake the cake in the preheated oven on the middle rack at about 175 degrees Celsius convection for around 45 minutes. Watch carefully so the crumbles do not burn. Serve it with cream or vanilla ice cream. You can also add chopped walnuts to the apple mixture before adding the streusel topping.
