  2. 2. Dice the onions and garlic. Sauté them in the butter until translucent.
  3. 3. Add the mushrooms and cook until they have released their liquid and are golden brown.
  4. 4. Squeeze the thawed spinach to remove excess water, and stir it into the mushroom mixture. Season with salt and nutmeg.
  5. 5. Slice the processed cheese into strips and distribute them over the mushroom-spinach mixture in the baking dish.
  6. 6. Mix the breadcrumbs with a spoonful of oil (optional) and sprinkle them as a crust over the gratin.
  7. 7. Bake the gratin for 20 minutes until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
