Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1. Cut the tuna fillet into two equally thick steaks. Important: Don't rinse, just pat it dry, otherwise it will steam instead of sear.
  2. 2. Peel 2 cloves of garlic and press them through a garlic press. Finely chopped garlic burns quickly, so use a press instead.
  3. 3. Dice the red onion into small cubes. This makes it milder and distributes it better in the salsa.
  4. 4. Dice the tomato into small cubes and remove the core. This prevents the salsa from becoming watery later.
  5. 5. Dice the avocado. Important: Use a firm, not-quite-ripe avocado so it doesn't become mushy.
  6. 6. Put the onion, tomato, and avocado into a bowl. These are the solid components of your salsa.
  7. 7. Pour 1 tablespoon of lemon juice over the vegetables. The acid prevents the avocado from browning.
  8. 8. Stir in the pressed garlic, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of pepper. Taste and add more salt if needed.
  9. 9. Brush the tuna steaks with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. This will keep them juicy in the air fryer and brown evenly.
  10. 10. Season the tuna steaks with a pinch of salt and pepper. Press the salt directly into the oil.
  11. 11. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C. This takes about 3 minutes. Without preheating, the fish will become rubbery.
  12. 12. Place the tuna steaks in the air fryer basket. Make sure they don't touch so the air can circulate.
  13. 13. Cook the tuna at 180 °C for 8 minutes, until the outside is golden brown. Tuna should remain pink inside, otherwise it will dry out.
  14. 14. Remove the tuna and let it rest for 2 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute evenly throughout the meat.
  15. 15. Slice the tuna steaks into thick slices. This shows off the pink interior and the crust nicely.
  16. 16. Spoon the avocado salsa onto the plates and place the tuna slices on top. It's perfect when the salsa is fresh and the fish is juicy.
