Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C. This takes about 3 minutes until the appliance is hot.
  2. 2. Divide the 200 g croissant dough into 4 equal-sized rectangles.
  3. 3. Grate the 100 g Gruyère cheese finely. This helps it melt evenly and stick better.
  4. 4. Distribute the grated Gruyère cheese evenly over each of the 4 dough rectangles.
  5. 5. Fold the dough rectangles diagonally into triangles. This creates the classic shape.
  6. 6. Moisten the edges with a little water. This helps seal the triangles.
  7. 7. Press the edges firmly together with your fingers. Avoid gaps so the cheese doesn't leak out.
  8. 8. Whisk 1 egg with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper in a small bowl.
  9. 9. Brush the croissants thinly with the egg mixture. This gives them a golden-brown color.
  10. 10. Place the croissants in the air fryer basket. Make sure they don't touch.
  11. 11. Bake the croissants in the air fryer at 180 °C for about 10 minutes, until golden brown and risen.
  12. 12. Carefully remove the croissants from the air fryer. They are hot and the cheese is very hot.
  13. 13. Let the croissants rest for about 2 minutes. This allows the cheese to set and won't burn your mouth.
  14. 14. Serve the croissants warm. They are perfect when the surface is crispy and golden brown.
