Ingredients
- 200g Cheddar Cheese
- 50g Flour
- 1 Egg
- 100g Panko Breadcrumbs
- 1 TL Salt
- 1 TL Pepper
Instructions
- 1. Cut the cheddar into sticks about 5 cm long and 1 cm thick. Important: Don't cut them too thin, or they'll melt too quickly.
- 2. Place the cheese sticks on a tray and put them in the freezer for 15 minutes. This prevents them from leaking during cooking.
- 3. Whisk the egg in a shallow bowl with 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp pepper. This helps the seasoning dissolve better.
- 4. Put 50 g flour in a second shallow bowl. The flour provides the first layer for adhesion.
- 5. Pour 100 g panko breadcrumbs into a third shallow bowl. Panko makes the surface extra crispy.
- 6. Take the frozen cheese sticks out and dip them one by one in the flour first. Shake off any excess flour.
- 7. Immediately dip the floured sticks into the egg mixture. Make sure they are coated all over.
- 8. Roll the wet sticks vigorously in the panko breadcrumbs. Press the crumbs on firmly so they don't fall off.
- 9. Place the breaded sticks back on the tray and return them to the freezer for 5 minutes. This sets the breading.
- 10. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C. This is important for immediate crust formation.
- 11. Place the cheese sticks in the air fryer basket, making sure they don't touch. They need space for the hot air.
- 12. Cook the sticks at 180 °C for 8 minutes. Turn them carefully after 4 minutes so both sides become golden brown.
- 13. Take the sticks out and place them on a tray lined with baking paper. This absorbs excess fat.
- 14. Let the cheese sticks rest for 2 minutes before you touch them. This solidifies the breading and prevents burning your mouth.
- 15. Serve the sticks warm with your favorite dipping sauce. Perfect: The crust cracks, the cheese is liquid.
