Ingredients
- 300g Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 4 Garlic cloves
- 1 Chili (fresh, seeded and finely chopped)
- 1 EL Lemon juice
- 2 EL Olive oil
- 1 TL Salt
- 1 TL Pepper
Instructions
- 1. Pat the 300 g shrimp dry with paper towels. Important: Never rinse them, or they’ll become watery.
- 2. Season the shrimp with 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp pepper in a bowl. Mix well so they’re seasoned evenly.
- 3. Peel the 4 garlic cloves and chop them finely. Make sure the pieces are small for even flavour.
- 4. Remove the seeds from the chilli and chop it finely too. Be careful with your hands to avoid burning.
- 5. Mix the chopped garlic, chilli, 2 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp lemon juice in a small bowl. Stir until you have a smooth paste.
- 6. Add the garlic-chilli paste to the shrimp and mix everything thoroughly. Each shrimp needs a good coating of marinade.
- 7. Let the shrimp marinate at room temperature for 10 minutes. This helps the flavour soak into the meat.
- 8. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C. This takes about 3 minutes to reach the target temperature.
- 9. Place the marinated shrimp in the air fryer basket. Spread them in a single layer so the air can circulate.
- 10. Fry the shrimp at 180 °C for 4 minutes. The surface will start to brown slightly and the garlic will smell fragrant.
- 11. Shake the basket vigorously to turn the shrimp. This makes all sides crispy, not just one.
- 12. Fry the shrimp for another 3 to 4 minutes. They are ready when they are firm, pink and bend easily.
- 13. Remove the basket and let the shrimp rest for 2 minutes. This distributes the juices evenly in the meat.
- 14. Arrange the shrimp on plates. The dish is perfect when the edges are slightly crispy and the meat is juicy.
